Mulayam Singh Yadav, one of the giants of Indian politics and once an undisputed king of Uttar Pradesh and Hindi heartland politics, died at a Gurugram hospital October 10 morning. He was 82. He had been ailing for quite some time and had been admitted to hospital where he was put on life support.
The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party Founder had been admitted to the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Haryana since the past few days. This has been confirmed by his son, and former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
Akhilesh said: “Mere adarniya pitaji aur sabke netaji nahi rahe – Akhilesh Yadav,” in a tweet on the party’s official handle.
Mulayam was born on November 22, 1939 and was one of the most prominent leaders of Uttar Pradesh who served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh thrice and has also served in the Union Government as the Minister of Defence. He has been elected 10 times as MLA and 7 times as Lok Sabha MP.
